As a manager in Spark, you can create, manage and update training modules to deliver learning content to users. This guide walks you through how to create modules, upload new versions and add supporting details like tile graphics and certificates.
Before you start
- From the dashboard go to the Library tab to access Modules.
- You'll see a list of existing modules, including their status (Available, Restricted, or Disabled).
- Only users with permission to manage modules, can create or edit them. If you require this permission, please contact Sponge Support.
- Make sure your module file is a .zip SCORM or Tin Can package. Spark will automatically detect the format.
Module Status Options
| Status | Description |
| Available | Can be allocated or distributed to users. |
| Restricted | Visible only to users who already have the module allocated |
| Disabled | Hidden from all users and cannot be distributed |
Creating a module
-
From the dashboard go to the Library tab.
-
Select Modules.
-
Click Create new module.
- Enter the following details:
- Name - module title as it will appear for learners.
- Description - short summary of the content or objective.
-
Tag (optional) - for search or reporting purposes.
-
Click Choose file to upload your module package (.zip). Spark will automatically determine if the format is Tin Can or SCORM.
- Under Size, choose how your module should display:
- Sponge modules are responsive by default.
-
If uploading content from another source with fixed dimensions, select Size and specify the correct width and height.
-
(Optional) Limit the module to specific organisational units or folders.
-
Click Create module to upload.
Upload time varies depending on file size. A green progress bar will appear when the upload is complete.
Adding a tile graphic
Tile graphics appear in the My own training library for learners.
-
Select the module you want to edit.
- Click Edit module.
-
In the Backdrop section, click Choose file to upload an image (4:3 aspect ratio, at least 640x480px).
Note: You only need one colour version. Spark automatically generates a desaturated version for alternate views.
Edit or create a new module version
-
From the Modules list, click on the module name - you'll see progress breakdowns for users (Pending, In Progress, Passed, Failed, Overdue).
- Click Edit Module (If the button is not present, it is not enabled for your account. Please contact Sponge Support).
- Update:
- Name and description.
- Tags
-
Tile graphic.
Create a new variant
Each version (variant) of a module, such as different languages or offline versions is shown in its own tab.
- Click the + to create a new variant.
- Upload the new version by following the same steps as module creation.
- The module's displayed name is a combination of the base name and variant name (e.g. Safety Training - Spanish).
Certificates
If your LMS includes loaded certificates, you can select which one to issue upon completion:
- Open the Certificate field in the module editor.
-
Choose the appropriate certificate from the dropdown (Note: the certificate must already exist in Settings - Certificates).
Manage offline or presentable modules
For offline modules (module type: Presentable):
- You can tick Obsolete to stop older versions from being used.
-
When a module is marked as obsolete, users are locked out of that version and prompted to download the updated version if available.
Download a module release
To download any uploaded release from within the releases tab of a module variant:
- Open the module, then select the Variant tab.
- Click Releases.
-
Click Download beside the version you need.
-
Confirm the download and wait for confirmation before closing.
Note: The downloaded module reflects its current state within Spark, not the original upload file.
