When sending training from Spark to users using email, the default email address that users will see will either be 'notifications@spongelearning.com' or 'notifications@boltspark.com'. However, it is often preferable for organisations to use one of their own domains, rather that a 3rd-party domain.
Spark allows for this to be done and the table below describes the steps (in order) that will be carried out by Sponge and the customer to configure the preferred domain and email.
| Action | Owner | Notes |
| Agree on the domain & email address to be used | Customer |
This should be a sub-domain, rather than a primary domain. For example, if the organisation domain is 'mycompany.com' then a sub-domain such as 'training.mycompany.com' is advisable. This would allow an address such as 'notifications@training.mycompany.com'. |
| Agree on the 'From Name' to be used | Customer | The From Name should be specified by the customer. This is what trainees will see in their email. For example, "MyCompany Training". |
| Create the domain in Sponge systems | Sponge Support | Once the sub-domain is agreed, Sponge support can configure this in its mail delivery system. |
| Supply the DNS entries to be added to the domain | Sponge Support |
After setting up the agreed domain, Sponge support will supply the customer with DNS values for items such as SPF, DKIM, and optionally, DMARC*. These will ensure Spark has the authority to send from the customer's domain safely and securely. *The specific values for the tenant can be obtained from Sponge Support during the implementation stage with the customer's IT. |
| Configure the DNS entries and advise Sponge Support | Customer | The customer's IT team adds the DNS entries and advises Sponge. Sponge support can confirm when these are added correctly, e.g. by creating a test enrolment. |
| Create the custom sending domain configuration in Spark | Sponge support | Sponge support arrange for the new configuration to be added to Spark and test internally. Following successful testing, the customer is informed. |
