The Sponge Spark LMS system (*.boltspark.com) experienced an unexpected outage, which resulted in end-users being unable to access the LMS. This affected all Spark LMS clients.

Following engineer intervention, Spark access was restored approximately 22 minutes later.
14:30 BST | GMT+1
Investigation established that a database migration - which was part of a routine release of Spark fixes and enhancements - was the root cause of the outage; specifically that the database migration took longer to complete than anticipated. Whilst the database was locked during migration, the Spark LMS became unavailable to all.
FURTHER UPDATES
- Investigations are ongoing with Sponge engineers to establish the reasons for the slow migration. The outcome of these may result in changes to release processes going forward.
- The release in question completed successfully, with no further effect beyond system availability.
